As a full service synagogue, one of the many services that Beth Tikvah offers its members is help in times of bereavement. Traditionally, the preparation of the dead for burial is considered one of the most sacred obligations any Jewish community can take upon itself. Beth Tikvah has established both a traditional burial society and a cemetery. These are operated under the guidelines and regulations established by the Cemetery Committee and the Board of the synagogue.
The burial society consists of twenty-four members of the synagogue. They form a Chevra Kadisha, a Sacred Society, that serves bereaved families as they prepare for the burial of a late family member. These twelve men and twelve women serve without any remuneration and choose to remain anonymous. They perform these duties through a deep and abiding desire to serve our community, and as volunteers, only serve members of Beth Tikvah.
The Beth Tikvah Cemetery is located on 28th Avenue (just west of King George Highway) in South Surrey.
