Dear Beth Tikvah Community,
Judith, Elior, Na’amah and I are settling into our new home in Richmond, and are incredibly excited to begin our new adventure in Canada! This will my first official Shabbat as the new rabbi at Beth Tikvah, and I invite you to join me and my family as we pray, sing, study, and schmooze together. Parashat Pinchas has a great deal to say about religious zealotry, women’s rights to inherit property, and the complications of transferring leadership from one generation to another. In other words, there’s a lot of “juicy” food for thought, and we’ll have a chance to explore together some of these themes tomorrow morning.
I’m very much looking forward to connecting with as many members of our kehillah kedoshah (sacred community) as I can in the weeks and months ahead; with that goal in mind, I urge you to “friend” me on Facebook (see link above), send me an email (rabbirubin@btikvah.ca), or better yet, come by the shul to say hello and chat. I’m always willing to meet individually, and am happy to get together at a cafe or even at (or near) your place of work.
May the coming years build on the wonderful achievements of Beth Tikvah, and bring new possibilities for spiritual growth, soulful learning, and the holy work of building a community together.
Shabbat Shalom u-Mevorakh – have a peaceful and blessed Shabbat!
Rabbi Rubin
